Dan Kroes

Dan Kroes works for the USGS Lower Mississippi Gulf Water Science Center in Baton Rouge, LA. His studies have ranged over the southeastern Coastal Plain from tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay to the Sabine River. His body or work includes studies on the effects of channelization and flow regulation on floodplain sediment deposition, subsidence, tidal extension, and flood diversions. His work in Louisiana has been primarily to characterize the flow and sedimentary properties of the Atchafalaya River Basin.

Presentation Description

Channel modification and evolution alter hydraulic connectivity in the Atchafalaya River, a delta interrupted

The hydrology of the Atchafalaya River Basin has changed dramatically since flow regulation began in 1962. This study investigated the factors that caused hydrologic change in relation to subsidence and sediment accretion. Recent high floods have allowed some insights into what a deviation in the ORCS flow regulation could change in the subsidence/accretion balance within the Basin.
