Gary L Brown

Gary L Brown is a Research Hydraulic Engineer in the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. He is a contributing developer of the Adaptive Hydraulics (AdH) numerical model, and he is the primary developer of the SEDLIB sediment transport library. His past applied work has included modeling of hydrodynamics, salinity, and sediment transport in rivers and estuaries throughout the United States. Over the past 20 years, he has worked extensively in the Mississippi River and in Coastal Louisiana, contributing to studies of the West Bay Diversion, The Mississippi River Channel Deepening, the Old River Control Complex, and the Mississippi River Hydrodynamic and Delta Management Study, among others. Most recently, he provided salinity intrusion forecast model results to the New Orleans District of the USACE, to inform their decision-making with respect to the 2023 saltwater intrusion event.
