Dr. Suzanne Van Cooten

Dr. Suzanne Van Cooten is the Regional Administrator of the USGS South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (SC CASC) based in Norman, Oklahoma. She has received numerous National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), and Department of Interior awards for her leadership of national research teams, NWS offices, and observing systems. In a 31 year career with NOAA and the NWS she has served as the NWS project leader for Native American tribal engagement, Hydrologist In Charge of the NWS lower Mississippi river forecast center, Deputy Chief of NOAA’s national severe storms laboratory warning research development division, Chief Scientist of the NWS national data buoy center, National Sea Grant Weather and Climate Extension Specialist at the University of Oklahoma, Regional and National Program Manager for NWS observing systems, and a NWS Weather and Water Forecaster. Suzanne, a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, earned a B.S. in Meteorology from OU and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of New Orleans-Louisiana State University.
